Best Secret Beaches in Sardinia

With over 1,800km of unspoilt coastline, Sardinia is renowned for beautiful beaches and the most translucent azure blue sea in the Mediterranean. Being the second largest island in the Mediterranean, the coastline varies enormously from north to south and east to west. However, wherever you are in Sardinia, there will be a stunning coastline with beautiful bays and beaches to discover, from the famous Costa Smeralda stretching for 55km in the north east, to the unspoilt south coast with many deserted beaches and Caribbean-like turquoise sea.

If you are looking for a really secret beach, head out to La Maddalena island and drive along the south west coast.  About 5km from the port, park near Cala Carlotto and walk over the rocks to the little beaches in tiny coves with very turquoise sea (image above).  La Maddalena can be accessed from Palau on the main island of Sardinia by ferry that run regularly throughout the day and Cala Carlotto is 5km from the main town.  Alternatively rent a rib to access this little bay and many secret beaches along the Maddalena coastline inaccessible by car and also on Spargi island which is opposite (Cala Granara and Cala Soraja can also be seen in the image above).
