Spring/Easter breaks in Sardinia

Sardinia is just a 2 hour flight from the UK yet not a mainstream Mediterranean destination but a sophisticated Italian island, west of mainland Italy and south of Corsica. With over 1,800km of unspoilt coastline, it is renowned for beautiful beaches, turquoise sea and fascinating rock formations. Yet being the second largest Mediterranean island, it has so much more to offer with an interesting history, wild mountainous interior, vibrant towns with local traditions and colourful festivals.  The people are warm and friendly and enjoying themselves is a way of life.

Sardinia has a pleasant 6 month summer, hot and dry from May to October but often with a breeze due to its location in the centre of the Mediterranean. The winter months are mild with a good amount of sunshine, particularly in March and April when all the flowers are out and it can be hot during the daytime and cooler in the evenings.

For a Spring/Easter Break, we would recommend:

Villa las Tronas Hotel & Spa in Alghero is situated in a unique location on its own rocky promontory jutting out into the sea with uninterrupted views from  over the Gulf of Alghero. Formerly an Italian royal residence, this small, elegant hotel has 24 guest rooms and suites, all individually designed with antique furniture, some with large balconies and sea views. The hotel is surrounded by Mediterranean style gardens and there is an outdoor seawater swimming pool situated on rocky terraces with sunbeds overlooking the sea. The hotel retains some original features and benefits from an elegant bar and excellent restaurant, for a relaxed Italian breakfast and gourmet candlelit dinner with panoramic views and sunsets across the bay to Capo Caccia. The Spa features an impressive Roman style indoor heated seawater pool with hydro massage jets, Turkish bath, sauna, Technogym and health and beauty suite with massages and wellness treatments available on request.
Just a short walk along the promenade (approximately 1km) brings you to the old walled town of Alghero with an interesting history to discover and a multitude of shops, café bars, pizzerias and restaurants tucked away in the cobbled alleys. On the other side of the old town are the port, marina and long white sandy beach, which stretches all the way out to Fertilia, approximately 5km.
