Alghero

Now a popular holiday resort, Alghero is a charming old Catalan town often referred to as the Coral Riviera, nestled into the north west Sardinian coastline, with wonderful views over the bay to the dramatic cliffs at Capo Caccia. The old walled Alghero town, within the ancient ramparts and look out towers, has a lively atmosphere with a good selection of shops, café bars and restaurants. It has an interesting history to discover manifested in its well preserved architecture. There is a 5km long white sandy beach stretching from the port and marina to Fertilia and other lovely coves and beaches on the way to Porto Conte.

VIlla L'Arco and the Restaurant at the Tamoil Petrol Station!

I've just read the guest book at Villa L'Arco and as well as being delighted about all the positive comments , one thing that stood out was the Tamoil Petrol Station!!! Serving pizza's for 4-8 euros and also Sardinian specialities such as Zuppa di Cozze al pomodoro and Tagliata (beef served on a bed or rocket, cherry tomatoes and parmisan cheese)are some of the best and the cheapest we have found! Exclusive to Just Sardinia, Villa L'Arco is a charming private villa set in large gardens with its own swimming pool, located in the heart of the Galluran countryside in the north of Sardinia. Situated 3km from the small village of Bassacutena it is in the middle of nowhere yet equidistant between Santa Teresa and Palau for beaches, Arzachena for shops, banks and weekly market, and Tempio up in the mountains. The village itself has a few small shops for everyday supplies, a couple of café bars, Agriturismo (farm) restaurants nearby and the Tamoil petrol station! Valle Della Luna, Capo Testa, Santa Teresa, Sardinia

Huw (from Huw's view!)and his family were lucky enough to be in Sardinia the last week of October at Villa L'Arco. The weather was fabulous, the beaches deserted yet the sea warm enough for swimming and windsurfing - just what we tell our our customers that October is such a great time to visit the island! During the week we visited Valle della Luna (Valley of the Moon) on the headland at Capo Testa and enjoyed a really interesting walk through the amazing rock formations there and the boys jumped off the rocks into the clear blue sea at the bottom - well worth the walk!
